Founded in 1996 by Kevin Charity, the Coaching Inn Group began as a family run business with a big ambition to breathe new life into Britain’s historic inns and hotels.
From its roots in Boston, Lincolnshire, the Group now operates 35 unique properties across the UK. Each one is carefully restored to celebrate its heritage, think oak beams, sash windows, and centuries-old charm, while offering all the modern comforts today’s travellers expect.
At the heart of it all is our belief in “Hospitality from the Heart.” That means caring for our teams like family, working closely with local communities, and making every guest feel truly welcome.

Britain’s Largest Gorge!
Located a short drive from Wells, Cheddar Gorge is Britain's largest gorge and a truly spectacular natural wonder. Carved by meltwaters over millions of years, it features towering limestone cliffs, reaching up to 450 feet, and two famous show caves: Gough's Cave and Cox's Cave. Explore the stunning rock formations, discover archaeological finds (including Cheddar Man, Britain's oldest complete skeleton), and learn about the history of the area. Beyond the caves, you can brave the Jacob's Ladder climb for incredible views, explore cliff-top walks, or even try rock climbing and caving activities for the more adventurous. And, of course, no visit is complete without sampling the famous Cheddar cheese! -

Short drive from Wells, Wookey Hole Caves is a spectacular network of limestone caverns, famous for its resident Witch of Wookey Hole legend. The Crowning Glory Of Wells
Undoubtedly the crowning glory of Wells, this magnificent Gothic cathedral is a masterpiece of English architecture. Built between 1175 and 1490, it's famous for its stunning West Front adorned with hundreds of medieval statues, the inverted archways (strainer arches) in the nave, and the beautiful Chapter House. Don't miss the astronomical clock, the second oldest surviving clock mechanism in the world, and take a moment to soak in the incredible atmosphere. -
Walk Along Medieval Streets
Directly adjacent to Wells Cathedral, Vicar's Close is often considered one of the most perfectly preserved medieval streets in Europe. Built in the 14th century, this charming cobbled street features 42 uniform houses that were originally built for the vicars choral who sing in the cathedral. It's a truly unique and picturesque place to stroll, offering a step back in time and fantastic photo opportunities.
