About Us

The Swan combines the beauty of a historic building with all the advantages of a modern hotel. The hotel is a striking, idyllic 14th-century coaching inn set in the timeless city of Wells , opposite the famous Wells Cathedral. The city itself is full of culture and reminders of older times, a beautiful location to visit.

The Swan Hotel, in Wells, welcomed its first guests
back in 1422, when nine-month-old Henry VI became
king and travellers on horseback needed a
place to rest on their journey.

Wells, although the smallest city in England,
is full of blue plaques to commemorate the
rich history of this quaint location
– The Swan being one of them.
